The Way Forward

Three things to know:

1) The Traditional Plan, as amended, was adopted by a vote of 438-384. Delegates further referred the Plan to the Judicial Council for determination if it is constitutional.
2) The One Church Plan, which was endorsed by Bishop Easterling and the Council of Bishops, was not adopted.

A brief word from Bishop Easterling

Beloved,

As the Special Session has drawn to a close, we are all in need of time to process a whirlwind of an afternoon. I invite us to center ourselves in God’s deep and abiding presence.

May the words of the Epistle to the Romans found in Chapter 8 strengthen us for the days ahead. The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We will reflect upon the outcome of the Special Session on Saturday, March 2, in a live-streamed town hall meeting, beginning at 9 a.m. Until then, may we hold one another in prayer.

Blessings and peace,
Bishop LaTrelle Miller Easterling

From the Leadership of Lovely Lane

We’re still here. Even though the Traditional Plan has passed the General Conference, we’re still here. We know that God is not finished with us yet. As we learn more in the coming days about what this means, Lovely Lane will still be Lovely Lane. We will welcome, celebrate, serve, and empower LGBTQIA+ people. We will worship joyfully in the rainbow diversity and we will work to make sure that we continue living as a witness to what is possible when you extend radical hospitality and welcome. As we walk this road together we will hold onto God’s unchanging love and grace, trusting that even now God’s holding onto us.

Above all else, know this: no matter what the church or anyone else may say, you are a beloved child of God. And no one—not even a General Conference—can change that.
