Choral Introit “Rejoice, Give Thanks and Sing” (Arthur Messiter)

Rejoice! Rejoice, give thanks and sing!

Prayer of Invocation (All)

Gracious God, you who supply your people with every blessing in abundance, lift up our hearts in gratitude and thanksgiving this day. Help us, we pray, to thank you for the gifts we seldom notice, to praise you for the bounty we often take for granted, and to glorify your name for how you have watched over us through another year of seedtime and of harvest. For all that you have done, for all that you are, and for all that you will ever do, we lift up our voices in praise to you.  Hear our prayer and our song and help us to live as ones with eternally grateful hearts – we ask it in Jesus’ name.  Amen

Opening Hymn “We Gather Together” UMH 131

1. We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;

He chastens and hastens his will to make known;

The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.

Sing praises to his name; he forgets not his own.

2. Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,

Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;

So from the beginning the fight we were winning;

Thou, Lord, wast at our side; all glory be thine!

3. We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,

And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.

Let thy congregation escape tribulation;

Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

LITANY OF GRATITUDE    BY Rev. Kathy Jo Blaske

Generous God, for the abundance of your blessings to us day by day and year by year,

We give you our thanks.

For the simple pleasures of life: for garden harvests,

coffee conversation, and familiar surroundings,

For health and strength to appreciate the wonder of life,

For needs met and desires fulfilled,

We give you our thanks.

For foods distributed to nourish body and spirit,

For homes which supply shelter, which nurture

order and beauty, and offer hospitality,

We give you our thanks.

With hearts that forgive as freely as you have forgiven,

With enthusiasm of spirit for the gift of life,

With music which declares your everlasting goodness,

With prayers for mutual understanding and peace,

We worship you with joy.

With creative pursuits which contribute our God-given talents,

With words which honor you as Creator, Redeemer, and Holy Spirit,

With time volunteered and dedicated to service in church and community,

With years committed to extending the love of Jesus Christ,

We worship you with joy.

With gifts of money which reach farther than we can manage ourselves,

With deeds done in service of neighbor and stranger,

With holy days set apart to celebrate your goodness and grace,

With family and friends distant and nearby,

We worship you, God, with grateful hearts and joyful spirit. Alleluia. Amen.

Congregational Response  “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come” UMH 694 Vs. 1

1. Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;

all is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin.

God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied;

come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.

I cast all my cares upon You

Presentation of Pledge Cards on the Altar

L: We give because we need to give—to express in tangible, material ways what our priorities are; to express that all we are and all we have come from God; to give witness to the importance of God’s justice and love for all people. This morning, in particular, we give witness to the significance of God’s work through the ministry of this congregation as we bring forward our pledge cards for the coming year and commit our financial stewardship to God.

(you will be invited to bring pledge cards forward to the altar by the right aisle and return by the left aisle)

Presentation Hymn    “My Tribute”           Jessika Williams

Stewardship Covenant (All)

I recognize that all I have or ever hope to have is mine in trust only.

I will manage the resources entrusted to me in ways that advance God’s kingdom of love and goodness.

I have gifts that have been given and which I have nurtured, gifts I will share in ways that show the presence of Christ to those around me.

I seek the opportunity to be a significant part of the family of God around the world through prayers, participation, service, witness, and gifts of money.

I covenant to grow and to fulfill my Christian stewardship in response to God’s graciousness. In God’s strength I will earnestly endeavor to fulfill this covenant. Amen.

Invitation to Offering

On-Line giving

Offertory   “Sing Praise to the Lord” (Parry)

1. Sing praise to the Lord! Sing praise in the height!

Rejoice in His word, you angels of light.

O heavens, adore Him by whom you were made,

And worship before Him in brightness arrayed.

2. Sing praise to the Lord! Praise God upon earth,

In tuneful accord, you saints of new birth.

Praise Him who has brought you His grace from above.

Praise Him who has taught you to sing of His love.

3. Sing praise to the Lord, all things that give sound,

Each jubilant chord, re-echo around.

Loud organs, His glory tell forth in deep tone,

And trumpets, the story of what God has done.

4. Sing praise to the Lord! Thanksgiving and song

To Him be outpoured all ages along.

For love in creation, for heaven restored,

For grace of salvation, sing praise to the Lord!

Offering Prayer (All)

On this day of plenty and abundance, we are led to share out of our wealth. Receive these gifts and use them that others may receive from the abundance of this congregation. For home, for family, for friends, for all those blessings by which life becomes more meaningful and time more precious, we thank you Lord. Amen.

Closing Hymn    “Now Thank we All Our God”     UMH 102

1. Now thank we all our God with heart and hands and voices,

who wondrous things has done, in whom his world rejoices;

who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way

with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

2. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,

with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us,

to keep us in his grace, and guide us when perplexed,

and free us from all ills of this world in the next.

3. All praise and thanks to God, the Father now be given,

the Son and Spirit blest, who reign in highest heaven

the one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore;

for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

Benediction

Let us become the recklessly generous people we were created to be.

For we are: Gods body, Christ’s hands and the Spirit’s breath.

Do not worry about your life. Do not be afraid for the future.

Let us use our wealth to do what we can while we wait to do even more.

Let our alleluias become reckless generosity!

Let us be Gods body, Christ’s hands and the Spirit’s breath now and forever. Amen.

Choral Benediction   “Jesus, United By Thy Grace” (Wesley)

Jesus, united by your grace,

And each to each endeared,

With confidence we seek your face,

And know our prayer is heard.

(Charles Wesley)
