Pastoral Prayer

Lord’s Prayer: (You may pray either version printed below or another that you know.)

Methodist Version
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

F
or thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.
Modern Ecumenical Version
Our God in heaven:
your holy name be honored,
your kin-dom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from the evil one.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory
are yours now and always.  Amen.

Prayer Song – Happy the Home When God is There (Verses 3 and 4) Hymnal 445

3. Happy the home where prayer is heard, and praise is wont to rise; where parents love the sacred Word and all its wisdom prize.

4. Lord, let us in our homes agree this blessed peace to gain; unite our hearts in love to thee, and love to all will reign.

Pastor’s Time with Young Disciples Rev. Dr. Patricia L. Sebring

Special MusicGod, We Praise You (Haydn)                                                                  Choir

God, we praise you, for you are the Lord.
All earth rejoices in sounding your glory, for you are the Lord.
We praise your holy name.
Angels shout their praise: Holy, holy, holy Lord God.
All the prophets, all the apostles and martyrs give praise.
Lord, Savior, Redeemer, come, come save your people.
Come, give life forever more.

Scripture Reading – Luke 24:44-53                                                         Dan Bailey, Liturgist

Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God.

Sermon – “Cutting the Apron Strings”                                            Rev. Dr. Patricia L. Sebring

* SongBecause Thou Hast Said Hymnal 635

1. Because thou hast said: “Do this for my sake,” the mystical bread we gladly partake; we thirst for the Spirit that flows from above, and long to inherit thy fullness of love.

2. ‘Tis here we look up and grasp at thy mind,’ tis here that we hope thine image to find; the means of bestowing thy gifts we embrace; but all things are owing to Jesus’ grace.

Receiving the Bread and Cup:

(Please be in an attitude of prayer as others receive Communion)

Prayer of Gratitude

Ascended Christ,
By your hosting of this meal of loaf and cup you transcend the distance between your heavenly and our earthly home.  We thank you that we mere mortals have shared the blessed body and blood and in so doing are raised above the earthly world to taste the divine.  May we who have been blessed to dine with you, carry within us the joy of our salvation and share with the world the power of your love and forgiveness that we may fulfill our commission to make of them disciples.  Alleluia!  Amen!
